Beautiful Nonsense

Creative Dialogues: A Series of ‘In-Conversation’ Events hosted by The Center

You’re Invited!

Kwame Lanto in conversation with Rachel Ama Asaa Engmann

Join us for an in-conversation event exploring Beautiful Nonsense, a striking new solo exhibition by artist, Kwame Lanto, who transforms discarded materials into imaginative, emotionally resonant works of art. With the precision of an archaeologist and the vision of a storyteller, Lanto excavates landfills in Accra and beyond uncovering not only remnants of local life but also cast-off objects from around the globe. From plastic containers to bicycle tyres to broken electronics, frayed wires, faulty plugs, and battered shoes, his assemblages invite viewers to see the world anew: to find beauty in the overlooked, and meaning in the discarded.  This conversation will delve into Lanto’s creative process, his reflections on value and memory, and the deeper questions his art poses about notions of waste, excess, and consumption.
